In physics, momentum is the quantity of motion an object possesses. It's the product of an object's mass and velocity, and it's always conserved in isolated systems (thanks, Newton!).
p = m × v (momentum = mass × velocity)
But here's where it gets interesting: forward momentum specifically refers to momentum in a particular direction — the direction you're actually trying to go. It's not just about moving; it's about moving purposefully.
Why does direction matter?
An object can have lots of momentum but still be spinning in circles. Forward momentum is what gets you from point A to point B. It's directional, intentional, and impossible to stop without applying an opposing force.
In everyday life, we use "forward momentum" to describe that unstoppable feeling when things start working: when one win leads to another, when progress breeds more progress, when you're not just busy but actually getting somewhere.

Swedish melodic death metal legends Dark Tranquillity captured something primal in their 2016 track "Forward Momentum" from the album Atoma. It's a sonic embodiment of unstoppable force: driving rhythms, relentless energy, and the kind of momentum that feels like it could break through walls.
The song explores themes of inner strength, defiance, and the refusal to be held back. It's about that burning determination to keep pushing forward no matter what tries to stop you. Pretty metal, right?
